Victor's 50th Birthday Party - 2002

November 27th 2002 was on a Wednesday, not really the perfect day to throw a party. I went to work as usual, had lunch in the canteen and sneaked off home perhaps a little earlier than normal. In the evening a few very welcome friends dropped in for a drink or two.

We saved all the pomp and circumstance for the following Sunday.

Getting up at quite an unearthly hour on Sunday December 1st, we and about thirty friends and relatives boarded a train from Winterthur to Lucerne (changing at Zürich for the train fans among you) where we boarded the Brünig Railway and enjoyed the splendid views in the 'panorama coach' to Meiringen...........except me.
Thanks to the strenuous efforts of a very good friend I was able to sit up front in the drivers cab. Wow, like a child at Christmas I grinned with excitement all the way!

We stopped at Meiringen for lunch, a traditional cheese fondue and a glass or two......

After lunch we once again boarded the Brünig Railway, this time to Interlaken where we took the SBB Intercity to Winterthur via Bern and Zürich.

That's me, grinning like a cheshire cat in Meiringen after my unforgetable ride.

Here in Luzern, the narrow gauge Bruenig train waiting to take us to Meiringen.

Certain sections use rack and pinion to haul the train up the hills.

This is where we had lunch.

The reservation notice on the intercity from Zuerich to Luzern.

Being this time of the year it was very cold and the windows were a bit steamed up.

Meiringen...........where Sherlock Holmes had his famous fight with Moriaty.

Our coach being pushed into place at Meiringen. From here we continued our outing to Interlaken.

Pulled this time by a differerent locomotive.

Arriving with the narrow gauge Bruenig railway at Interlaken the Intercity to Bern, Zuerich and Winterthur was waiting on the adjacent platform.
